Molly Nash

Dr. John Wagner, a University of Minnesota cord blood stem cell expert, holds a sleeping Adam Nash in the photograph (right). Adam's sister Molly was born with Fanconi anemia, an often fatal genetic disease.

Molly received a transplant from Adam's umbilical cord blood upon his birth in 2000. He was selected among other embryos created by his parents because his tissue matched Molly's and did not have the genes for Fanconi anemia. Adam's stem cells rebuilt Molly's bone marrow. Today Molly is in good health.
